Insurance Guide

When you hire a car, you need to make sure that you are covered against any accidents or incidents that may occur during your rental agreement period.

If you decide not to take out the insurance you may fail to avoid unpleasant surprises at the counter if anything should happen. If you are not certain which insurance covers best your needs, ask at the Firefly car hire location for more information. Bear in mind that the car that you hire is your responsibility during all rental period, so it is better to be covered too much than not enough.

Before buying any additional insurance check the ones that you already have like insurance policy agreement, personal car insurance, home insurance, auto break down insurance or credit card insurance whether they also cover for using a car hire. If they do, check if the cover is sufficient and that also includes your destination and chosen car hire. If the cover is sufficient, than there is no need to pay again for the same insurance from Firefly car hire company, just remember that your normal travel insurance does not cover for you when you are hiring a car.

It is always good to check these things in advance, however once you get to the car hire location double check with Firefly representative that will provide you with additional help and information regarding insurance policies.

We are aware that Insurance can be a bit confusing, so here is a guide to the types of insurance that are available in Firefly car hire locations:

  • CDW stands for Collision Damage Waiver. This provides cover for damage to or theft of the hire car (this cover may be provided by your credit card too).
  • TP stands for Theft Protection insurance. This provides cover for theft or attempted theft, of the Firefly vehicle up to the full value of the vehicle and any charges that Firefly Rent a Car may incur.
  • PAI stands for Personal Accident Insurance. This will pay out in the event of injury or death.
  • SP stands for Super Cover. If you opted for, or if your rate includes Collision Damage Waiver (CDW) and Theft Protection (TP), you may also wish to purchase an additional protection, "Super Cover", to waive your already limited liability in case of damage to, or theft of the Firefly vehicle, its parts and accessories, including those losses resulting from collision, vandalism, theft or attempted theft, provided the vehicle is used in accordance with the terms and conditions of the rental agreement.

Check to see what the excess will be on any claims you make. You may wish to take out excess insurance to cover this when you hire a car, in order to reduce or eliminate any excess charges if you need to make a claim.
